Church Council-
The church council plans and implements the programs and ministry of the Oswego First United Methodist Church as well as oversees the administration of the church. The church council is amenable to the charge conference.
S/PPRC –
Our Staff-Pastor Parish Relations Committee works closely with the pastor and staff concerning their relationship with the congregation. This committee is in essence the personnel committee of the pastoral charge. The committee is to be sensitive to the opinions and concerns of the congregation concerning the pastor and staff. It is to confer with the District Superintendent or the Bishop concerning the appointment of the pastor for the church. The committee recommends the salary for the pastor to the Charge Conference. It consists of from five to nine members of the pastoral charge.
Finance Committee–
The Finance Committee is the agency that administers the finances and serves as the central treasurer of the church. As such it receives and disburses all general funds. The general agencies are accountable to the Council of their fiscal administration.
Board of Trustees –
This committee is charged with the responsibility for the supervision and care of all property and equipment owned by the local church. The Trustees are to plan and set policies for the maintenance and use of the property and equipment. They receive and administer all bequests to the local church. The Board of Trustees consists of three to nine persons and at its discretion may be incorporated.
Safe Sanctuary Committee-
This team shall be amenable to the Church Council and shall have the following responsibilities:
• Developing the local church’s Safe Sanctuaries policy in accord with the guidelines and
standards outlined in the resolution adopted by the annual conference.
• Overseeing the implementation of this policy in the local church setting.
• Serving as the linking body between the local church, the district and the annual conference’s
Safe Sanctuaries Team regarding Safe Sanctuaries matters.
Nominations Committee –
There shall be elected annually, by the charge conference in each local church, a committee on nominations and leadership development that is composed of professing members of the local church. The charge of this committee is to identify, develop, deploy, evaluate, and monitor Christian spiritual leadership for the local congregation. Members of the committee shall engage in and be attentive to developing and enhancing their own Christian spiritual life in light of the mission of the Church.
